Raiders Deliver Another Big Win For Guests, Books Prep For F1

The big race is just a few days away, but the STN Sports Books crashed and burned a few days early and it was all thanks to the 49ers and the Raiders. “Our biggest game of the day was the 49ers. We were huge Jags fans and didn’t get there. With the Raiders, this was two weeks in a row where they were playing a bad team, and the guests backed them again,” said Chuck Esposito, Station CasinosRace and Sports Book Director. “Keeping the Raiders game under the total was paramount, which really helped and still enabled us to have a small winning day on Sunday.”

The Broncos’ 24-22 win Monday night against the Bills was also a big winner for the Books, as 78% of the tickets were on Buffalo and 68% of the tickets were on the over. The game went under the closing total of 47.5. With all that in mind, lets quickly look back at the past week in sports and peek at whats ahead on the app and at the Station Casinos Race and Sports Books…

Pigskin

The New York Giants might just be the doormat of the NFL. The G-men went into Sunday’s game against the Cowboys as 17.5-point underdogs and got blown out like a birthday candle. New York (hell, both New York teams) are a clear bet-against for guests. “You could make a case right now that the Giants are the worst team in the league, right there with the Panthers,” Esposito said.

At one point in the fourth quarter, Giants quarterback Tommy Jersey Boy” DeVito only had 44 passing yards. There were quarterbacks who exceeded that in one play last week! He finished with 86 passing yards. While there’s plenty of football on deck, the Giants have certainly entered the Caleb Williams sweepstakes in the 2024 draft, which means both DeVito and Daniel Jones may be joining Jimbo Fisher in the unemployment line.

Championship Rematch

This week’s NFL slate features one absolute monster of a Monday nighter in the Eagles at Chiefs, a rematch of last year’s Super Bowl. So far, the STN Books are seeing “a lot” more action on Philadelphia, where it’s always sunny. Kansas City is a field goal favorite, but the number is more likely to drop than rise, Esposito said. Other teams seeing early action includes the Packers, Dolphins, Rams and, surprisingly enough, the Panthers.

UNLV Rebels

The UNLV Rebels won’t be champions of college football in a traditional sense, but they could very well be crowned the “cover kings” when all is said and done. After a Friday night dismantling of Wyoming, the Rebs improved their against-the-spread record to 9-1. With a chance to win the Mountain West, the Rebels are better positioned than BunnyRanch worker. “The bettors are backing the Rebels big time. I can’t remember the last time we saw interest or handle like this on UNLV football,” Esposito said. “We literally have six-figure decisions on Rebels football games, which we’ve never had before.”

Low Totals

Iowa Football is quickly becoming one of THE stories in college football this season, but it’s not for the team’s win-loss record. Iowa game totals are falling like Red Rock National Park’s Ice Box Canyon after a thunderstorm. Last week’s game against Rutgers saw a total of 27.5; the two previous weeks saw totals of 32 and 30.5. All those games somehow still went under! The Hawkeyes have a 2-8 over-under record. They can’t score and no one can score against them.  This week’s game total is again lower than a Supreme Court confidence rating.

“It’s hard to believe that you see totals in the twenties in college football today,” Esposito said. “Some people are taking these overs because it’s just too juicy and think there’s no way it’s not going over.” Iowa football has become a topic of conversation because their totals are so low. Esposito added, “They played at Wrigley Field recently and on a day when the wind’s blowing out, the Cubs could have easily outscored Iowa.”

Last Man Standing

Similar to Chip Kelly’s tenure at UCLA, the STN’s Last Man Standing contests in the NFL and NCAA are almost over. Only 11 of the initial 6,324 entrees remain active after ten weeks of NFL games (more than half the remaining entires were knocked out last week!) Over in the college Last Man Standing competition, only four of the initial 3,223 entries are still active. Reminder: the winner of the college football Last Man Standing contest gets a winner-take-all prize of $100,000. The pro winner pockets $150,000.

Bets To Know

The STN Sports Books are ready for F1 and have more menu options than Durango’s new beverage program. Oddsmakers and the STN Hub Team have already been extremely aggressive with F1 betting options, as guests can wager on a variety of props, including the fastest qualifying speed, the fastest practice speed, whether a certain driver will make the podium, who will finish in the Top 10, the winning margin, and nationality of the winner, among others.
